Grab the last casual winter jacket you’ll ever need
As we get further into the colder weather thoughts naturally turn to winter coats. This year (as every year if we’re honest) we’re focussed on the N1 deck jacket from Iron Heart. This classic jacket was first produced for the US Navy in the early 1940s and Iron Heart’s faithful reproduction is available in a tough and waterproof 14oz oiled whipcord fabric with a long pile 80% wool, 20% alpaca lining that is certain to keep you warm and dry through the winter months.
Oiled canvas is a perennial favourite at Style Uncut with it’s potential for rapid patina while out competing leather when it comes to rugged durability. The ultra warm lining and heritage pattern of this example puts it over the edge.
Available on the Iron Heart website in either olive or black this is definitely one to consider for your cold weather wardrobe.

A slightly lighter option that will still last and last
Another option if it doesn’t get quite as cold where you are, or indeed as a transitional piece, is a classic chore coat. This jacket style traces its heritage all the way back to the latter half of the 1800s in France, where it became popular with blue collar workers due to its durability, relaxed fit, and ample storage.
These from beloved Californian brand Freenote Cloth are a great example of the breed constructed from heavy-duty moleskin sourced in Japan. The dense weave results in a jacket that is extremely durable as well as highly wind and water resistant.
The fit is relaxed with a tailored silhouette, allowing for ease of movement while still looking sharp. For storage, the jacket features three exterior pockets – all reinforced with an additional layer of moleskin – one interior chest pocket, and a concealed button flap on the exterior chest pocket to keep valuables secure.

A sophisticated minimal bomber jacket
For a more modern, sportier alternative look no further than a bomber jacket. Available in a vast array of materials from the traditional nylon to warm wool or even leather this is a casual heritage piece that will forever be in style.
This wool version from Cos is a minimal take on classic bomber styles. Made from soft traceable wool, it's cut for a regular fit and features a concealed zip closure and a discreet ribbed collar and cuffs.
